Control your development boards using infrared (IR) spectrum receivers and transmitters. This method of communication is commonly used in devices like TV remote controls (if you have an old one lying around, put it to use by remotely controlling lights, for example). It's a simple, fast, and relatively reliable way of wireless communication. It works well for interacting with remote-controlled robots. However, it is susceptible to interference from ambient light, especially with a higher proportion of infrared radiation.
