The ESP8266 chip used is a highly integrated chip designed to meet the needs of the new connected world. It offers a complete and comprehensive WIFI network solution, allowing you to either host an application or use all the network functions from another wireless implementation. Notice:

This module requires a 3.3V supply for VCC and 3.3V logic. Not 5V tolerant. Connecting RX or TX to 5V Arduino will destroy this module! You must use a logic level converter, or Arduino to 3.3V. This is a powerful version of WIFI with good throughput through the environment. At peak times the power consumption can be quite high. It needs at least 300mA. The 3.3V supply on the Arduino Uno is not sufficient to power this module. You must provide separately.
