WS2812E is an intelligent externally controlled light source integrating a control circuit and three coloured LEDs - red, green and blue (RGB). Control is via a single-wire bus and the chips can be connected in series - each chip contains one pin for data input and one pin for data output. This arrangement saves space on the PCB and also saves the number of pins used in the control application.
