The TCA9548A has eight bidirectional translators that can be controlled via the I2Cbus. One master SCL/SDA channel is translated into eight slave I2Cchannels. Any single SCn/SDn channel or combination of channels can be selected, as determined by the contents of the programmable control register. These downstream channels can be used to resolve slave address conflicts. For example, if an application requires eight identical digital temperature sensors, one sensor can be connected to each channel: 0-7.
The master can reset the TCA9548A in the event of a delay or other incorrect operation by bringing the RESET input low. Similarly, a power-on reset deselects all channels and initializes the I2C/SMBusstate machine.
Its use is quite simple: the multiplexer itself is at I2C address 0x70 (but can be modified from 0x70 to 0x77) and you simply write one byte with the desired multiplexed output number to this port and bam - any future I2Cpackets will be sent to this port. Theoretically, you could have 8 of these multiplexers at each of the addresses 0x70-0x77 and could control 64 I2Cchannels.
