Step-Down Converters
Step-down converters, also known as buck converters, have the ability to reduce higher direct current (DC) voltage to the desired value. Similar to switch-mode power supplies, they generate pulses from the voltage, which are then transformed into a constant voltage using a capacitor and an inductor. By adjusting the pulse width, you can additionally change the voltage level, although it will never exceed the input voltage value.

Similar to switching power supplies, the voltage creates pulses that are used to capacitor and an inductor to convert it to a constant voltage. In addition, by changing the pulse width you can change the magnitude of the voltage, but never above the input voltage.
Choosing the right inverter for your project is important. You have to consider the maximum input voltage and current the inverter can handle, as well as the conversion efficiency. And of course, don't forget overload and short circuit protection so you don't burn out your entire project.
