Li-ion cell charger TP4056 with microUSB protection
Code: LA123003CRelated products
Product detailed description
This model is designed for charging lithium batteries using constant current/constant voltage (CC/CV). In addition to safely charging the lithium batteries, this module also provides the required protection. Below are the protection functions provided by this module.
Protection functions:
This module uses TP4056 Li-Ion charge controller IC and separate protection IC. There are other types of modules on the market that use TP4056, but these do not have any protection circuitry or IS to provide the necessary protection for lithium batteries. This module uses both TP4056 and DW01A. This combination then has the following protection functions in practice:
- Constant current and constant voltage control for charging the connected lithium battery,
- Discharge protection - protects the battery against discharge below 2.4V, which is the minimum for the "health" of the battery,
- If the connected battery discharges below 2.4V, the module will disconnect the battery until the battery voltage reaches at least 3.0V. At that point, the module will allow the battery to be used again. Although the model reduces the output power of the battery at the time of discharge, the battery is still allowed to charge via the MOSFET diodes (FS8205A).
- Overvoltage protection - the module will safely charge the battery up to 4.2V,
- Overcurrent and short circuit protection - the module will shut down the batteries if the discharge rate exceeds 3A or if the output is shorted,
- Soft-start will limit the current,
- Charging (battery reconditioning) - if the voltage level of the connected battery is less than 2.9V, the module will charge with 130mA current until the battery voltage reaches 2.9V again, at which point the current increases from linear to the configured charging current.
The module includes two indicator LEDs. Red LED indicates charging. A blue LED indicates a full charge.
The charging current can be configured externally with the resistor Rprog. (R3, see diagram). The manual for the TP4056 (link in the resource section below) includes a table and equation for the resistance value that will be used to configure the various charging currents.
The module consumes a very small amount of current (µA) when connected to a battery. It's a good idea to leave it connected to the battery for a longer period of time. However, if you do not plan to charge the battery for 4 months, we recommend disconnecting the module from the battery.
You can connect two lithium battery cells to create an equivalent single battery with a total capacity twice that of the individual cells. However, we do not recommend connecting more than two cells at a time to this module.

Notes:
- This product is not a standalone functional unit and may require professional installation.
- Product images are for illustration purposes only and may sometimes differ from the actual appearance of the item. However, this does not change its basic properties.
- Due to the nature and characteristics of Lithium Ion batteries, Laskarduino is not responsible or liable for any damage, defects, injury, fire, skin burns or any other consequences that may occur from improper or incorrect use of this module or any battery, device or item. By purchasing this product you accept the previous.
- You have to be careful when connecting two cells in parallel. Both cells must have the same voltage. If one cell has a lower voltage, it would discharge to its lowest possible discharge limit so that - if possible - both cells have the same voltage. In this case, the tension will be balanced. If the voltage of the two cells is very different, the cell may overheat or worse. When charging two cells in parallel to this module, the charging current of each cell is half of the total charging current of the module, i.e. each cell has the same voltage level.
