Encoders with incremental output produce a precise number of pulses (increments) per revolution. These pulses allow us to determine the current position of the shaft relative to its starting point or position.

In the event of a power failure, it is necessary for the encoder to first return to its starting point or original position so that the shaft position can be accurately determined again. This process is called homing or returning to the default position (homing run).
