Product detailed description

The development board based on the ESP32 microcontroller integrates a VGA controller, PS/2 mouse and keyboard controller, audio output for headphones and speaker. Another component is a connector for inserting a microSD card to store user data. The software includes a graphics library, a game engine and an ANSI/VT terminal for ESP32.

The software has three preset fonts to best represent an 80x25 or 132x25 text screen at 640x350 resolution. However, other fonts and resolutions can be used.

Sprites can have up to 64 colors (RGB, 2 bits per channel + transparency). Sprite has one or more bitmaps associated with it, even different sizes. Bitmaps (frames) can be selected sequentially to create animations. An unlimited number of sprites is supported. However, large sprites and a large number of them reduce the frame rate and could generate flicker.

When there is enough memory (at low resolutions such as 320x200), it is possible to allocate two screen buffers so that a double buffer can be implemented. In this case, drawing primitives always draw from the back buffer.

With the exception of double buffering or when explicitly prohibited, all drawings are executed with vertical stretching so that no flicker is visible. If the render primitive queue is not processed before the vertical rendering is complete, it is aborted and continues with the next rendering.
